It is the right moment to make a difference! At What Works Climate Solutions, we are aware that the seventh assessment cycle by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is getting into full swing, it is critical timing to support the process by rigorously synthesizing the available scientific evidence on what climate policies work, under what conditions and why.
What’s missing: We need the best evidence on what climate policies work! While the IPCC has robust systems for modelling climate futures, there’s no equivalent process for rigorously assessing what climate policies actually work in practice. There are still too many ineffective policies, while global emissions continue to rise.
Our solution: 40-50 systematic reviews—undertaken by researchers in the global south and global north to support a truly global assessment—filling the gap by answering: What climate solutions work? Under what conditions? For whom? And why?
This isn’t theoretical—it’s what policymakers at every level are asking for to support climate solutions that work. At the What Works Climate Solutions summit in June 2024, 335 participants from 50 countries—including climate and evidence synthesis leaders—came together to launch this movement.
For funders: This is your opportunity to make a difference. Support high-quality living systematic reviews in your area of interest—whether that’s carbon pricing, regulatory instruments, or sector-specific solutions—or climate action in energy, buildings, transport, industry, agriculture, forestry or land-use.
