What Works Climate Solutions is a community-driven initiative by climate change researchers, decision-makers and evidence synthesis enthusiasts. It promotes and catalyzes rigorous evidence on what climate solutions work for evidence-based climate policy as well as upcoming climate change assessments such as the IPCC’s 7th Assessment Report.
We envision a world where decision-makers use the best available evidence to identify and implement impactful climate solutions.
Our mission is to accelerate the transition to evidence-based climate policy. Rigorous and useful bodies of knowledge are created through collaboration between scientists, policymakers, funders, publishers, and civil society; together these groups will achieve a cultural shift in the way evidence is summarized, shared, and used, fostering accelerated and improved climate action.
We aim to advance the What Works in Climate Solutions movement by bringing together leading experts, key institutions curating scientific evidence, decision-makers, research funders, and other stakeholders to shape evolving bodies of rigorous knowledge and participate in shared learning about how to make best use of the emerging science for transformative climate action. Together, we strive to elevate evidence-based climate policy to the next level.
Our work focuses on transforming how evidence is produced, curated, shared, and applied. We achieve this by building capacity, facilitating meaningful exchanges between stakeholders, and fostering collaborations across the evidence ecosystem.
We seek to develop new evidence synthesis methods for understanding what climate solutions work and to make rigorous, policy-relevant evidence accessible to decision makers whenever needed via a living evidence bank.
We advocate for enhanced partnerships between evidence producers, curators, knowledge brokers and evidence users towards an active culture of evidence co-production that directly supports urgent and effective climate action.
