Developing guidelines for economic evaluation of the health impacts of climate (in)action, enabling a consistent, comparable approach

In funding research in the climate and health field, economic evaluation has come up as critical evidence that policymakers need to identify and develop effective policy for climate and health. However, there are gaps in research capacity to deliver the evidence needed.

Most economists either work on health or climate/environment economic analysis and they are speaking different ‘languages’. To deliver interdisciplinary climate and health economic analysis, they will need to work together to build the evidence base.

Existing methods exist for economic evaluation, but are developed and used in silos. There is a lack of globally applied, consistent, comparable approaches for economic analysis of the health impacts of climate action. There is a need to bring together existing approaches and provide guidance on when, why and how to use them, include understanding and communicating uncertainties and limitations.
